All about "Black Friday"

Why is it called "Black Friday"?

Black Friday has two stories about its meaning:

  • Historically, Black Friday is known as a stock market disaster on September 24, 1869. That day, after long speculation, the price of gold plummeted, and the markets crashed. (Watch the video below)

  • However, the more contemporary meaning refers to the day after the US Thanksgiving holiday, traditionally a holiday for many employees. It is typically a day full of special shopping opportunities and heavy discounts and is considered the beginning of the holiday shopping season.
