Stockholm: | Where to eat?

What to eat & drink in Stockholm?

Like every country located on a coast, Sweden is a country rich in seafood. However, the Swedish meatball has been increasingly known in Turkey with the contributions of IKEA. When you mention Swedish food, Swedish meatball is one of the first dishes that comes in to your mind. That's why we decided to try Swedish meatballs as our first stop.

Svenska köttbullar (Swedish meatballs)

Restaurang Riche

Whether you are a tourist or a local, Riche is definitely one of the places that should be visited sometime of the day. We decided to have a lunch in here and it was the right choice. In Stockholm, the wasa-style crackers and butter that are consumed in the place of to the bread. It is generally served with a bottle of water before you order some food. We have tried aniseed rice crackers here, and they are highly recommend. The main dish was "Swedish meatballs (or Svenska köttbullar in Swedish)" and dish of the day (or you can call selection of the chef); grilled steak in wine sauce. Since the garnishes that accompany our meals are quite rich, you may not order starters if you are not very hungry. As you can see in the photo below, bill is served in a cute way. You can check here if you want to look at the menu before your visit.

Restaurant Pelikan is another popular restaurant for Swedish meatballs. We can not give much detail as we have not been there yet. As far as we know, it's a more traditional restaurant than Riche. You decide which one suits best for you. Let's add the location here for you📍

Sea Foods

Oaxen Slip &  Oaxen Krog

In Djurgården there are two restaurants in the same location, Oaxen Slip and Oaxen Krog, one of them is for fine dining (Oaxen Krog). You can have a delicious dinner with 6 or 10 kinds of small dishes and it is suggested to book in advance for Oaxen Krog.
You can book from here if you prefer.  Unfortunately we were not able to find a table so we have booked a table at Oaxen Slip. Later on we realised that it was a good choice but we are still curious about the other option. Menus are quite eye-catching, and you immediately feel that you are going to have a nice food in here. As a starter we preferred Oaxen smoked shrimps and smoked perch, smoked sea bass. Check here for the menu

A little advice about Oaxen Slip; it is located in Djurgården (museum island) where  Gröna Lund or Skansen, Vasamuseum is in the same area, you can plan them all together for the same day.

Let's continue from the seafood.

Sture Hof

This restaurant, which is in walking distance to our home, looked very interesting when we passed through the front door. There was a group of people in the suit who looked like they are having a meeting or cocktail and the lively sound coming from the restaurant attracted us :)  On the way back home, we have changed our mind to come here. It is appealing to those who love seafood. If you are interested, you should definitely check the menu.

Breakfast

Greasy Spoon

Wherever we go, we can't do without an egg-based breakfast option. Especially for those who want to start the day with a savory breakfast: Greasy Spoon. 🍳

We had the best breakfast in Greasy Spoon in Stockholm. Everything from Eggs Benedicts to pancakes was delicious. The full menu is available here.

Greasy Spoon; is an English restaurant with 2 locations in the city Södermalm and Odenplan. Since we wanted to explore this area, we preferred Södermalm. Staff in here is incredibly sweet. Their motto is "Breakfast & Brunch, all day, everyday!". Definitely recommend having breakfast here. Then we walked around the coffee shops and said, "lets fika!" If you want to know more about "FIKA", you can find it here.

Snacks

Bröd & Salt

One of the Stockholm classics is Bröd & Salt. There are delicious salty buns, as the brand name suggests. Not only delicious snacks, but also great coffee and sweet products. Bröd & Salt; ideal for a quick snack and for a delicious lunch.

You can try "coffee & kanelbulle" at Bröd & Salt stores, as one of most preferred food for FIKA moments.

There are many Bröd & Salt around the city. The branches at Gamla Stan and MOOD Stockholm Shopping Mall were the points where we tried different tastes. ; we had coffee & kanelbulle for FIKA at Gamla Stan, and had lunch at MOOD Stockholm.

We wanted to write for you in two places we couldn't go, but if we could go, we would love it.

Takpark by Urban Deli

Takpark is a rooftop bar that we learned the day we left the city. We did a little research and loved the photos. Although we didn't have much time, we went there but learned that it was closed. The venue is open from 17:00 to 00:00 and it is impossible to get up to that floor even outside these hours.

You can check the place and programs from their Instagram account or website.

Östermalms Saluhall

Another place we want to share with you is the food market. We love these places in every city because they are ideal to discover the eating & drinking habits. Unfortunately Östermalm Saluhall was being rebuilt and we could only look at it from the outside. You can review the Östermalm Saluhall here.
